Discover the poetry of your body in this two hour master class with Carrie Tyler, founder of the Rasamaya Method.

Carrie , is well-known in the yoga community as an expert anatomy teacher, who creates body part focused vinyasa flows that have been described as, “edgy, enlightening, badass, and just damn fun.”

The first 30 minutes of the class is dedicated to discussing dynamic anatomy where you will debunk myths about the limitations of your structure, and identify patterns that may be holding you back in your practice.

The next 90 minutes is all about getting your sweat on, meeting your edge, and building to a peak posture that relates back to the earlier discussion.  You will discover variations of yoga poses you didn’t even know existed as you get gritty and dig deep into the possibilities of your body.

As true to all Rasamaya Method classes, one of the nine core emotions (rasas) will be woven through the experience in the form of inspiring readings, pranayama (breath work), and meditation.

Contact Improvisation is (among other things) a physical-listening practice, a technique-tumbler, a social dance, a form of movement research, and a performance style. Class will be designed as an introduction to the form, appropriate for both non-dancers and dancers of a wide range of experience. Those who love the practice site the broad scope of its applicability, the ample occasion it provides for exploration and discovery, and its simultaneous ease of access and depth of play.

About the instructor:
Scott Slocum regularly teaches and practices Contact Improvisation in Buffalo. Deeply interested in bodies and movement, he’s practiced massage therapy for 12 years, and is a student of both the Russian martial art, Systema, and of the Alexander Technique. His studies include improvisational music, movement, and storytelling, and the relationships between creativity and learning, religious practice, social interaction, and etiquette.

1-3 pm
Julia Hamilton, RYT
Stress Management Specialist

More and more people are beginning to recognize a profound inner longing for authenticity, connection and aliveness. Meditation gives us a golden key to address this yearning.

This workshop, “How to Meditate,” is an introduction to the practice of meditation and is open to beginners as well as meditators of all levels.

The facilitator, Julia Hamilton, has been teaching yoga and meditation in the community for many years, and has also worked as a stress management specialist in the Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease at UPMC/Hamot for eleven years.

Julia has two decades of meditation experience in several traditions and styles of practice. Currently she practices and teaches the meditation technique of Shamatha or “calm abiding” – which is the art of stabilizing the mind to remain present with whatever arises.

Participants will learn and practice this secular, breath centered style of meditation and be taught everything necessary in order to start a personal meditation practice: how to settle into your meditation space, how to sit and position your body, how to work with your breath and how to work with the wild mind!

The cost of the workshop is $25 – If you have a current meditation practice, please bring your cushion/bench. Bolsters and blankets are available at the studio.

He currently performs with Morrisondance and Pickup-Stix stiltwalkers.

About the class:

Capoeira is a cultural art form rooted in the colonial era of Brazil, where Africans brought by the Portuguese developed a new style of not only martial arts, but also dance, strategy, and music. Now practiced around the world, Capoeira was once illegal due to being associated with African culture and resistance against repression. This unique form – the only surviving martial art native to the western hemisphere – utilizes kicks and sweeps but also evasive, dancelike movements and acrobatics, percussion, song, and much more!  BEGINNERS WELCOME.
